At the conclusion of the Second Seminole War 3,824 Seminoles and blacks were relocated to the western Indian Territory. A few Native Americans withdrew into the Everglades. Casualties in the U.S. Army were high. Seventy-four commissioned officers were killed, and the death rate for regular soldiers was about 14%. The war cost the United States government over $20,000,000. This figure does not include the cost of fielding the regular army. Many of the officers in this war such as John C. Pemberton, Joseph E. Johnston, George G. Meade, and William T. Sherman would command troops again in the Civil War.
